pier wind blowing

I witnessed (awestruck)

thousands upon thousands

of tiny butterflies

migrating across the sea

into shore today

Their whitish-yellow wings

fluttered wildly for hours

in a relentless wind

driving them onward

to the winds of change

letting go

and being taken

to wherever

they must go next

to whatever

they must do next

Butterflies aloft

in a treacherous journey

across the sea

with no choice

by the forces of nature

the call

of animal instincts

the chemistry

of bodily secretions

Do they hope?

Do they wish?

Do they pray?

Please, help me make it to shore
